Knative: Operator’s Handbook

Is Knative a FaaS?

Knative is frequently explained as “serverless on Kubernetes”. Because of this, beginners frequently assume it offers FaaS (functions-as-a-service) experiences (like AWS Lambda) in Kubernetes.

Knative does not offer functions as a service. However, you can build your own FaaS solution on top of Kubernetes, using Knative’s features. For example, Kyma Project provides FaaS on Kubernetes using Knative.

There are distributions of Knative that offer serverless CaaS (containers-as-a-service) experiences.
